MyPADBANK, an NGO categorized under
Sustainable Development Goal number 6 designed by the United Nation, i.e. Clean
Water and Sanitation, works on delivering free sanitary napkins to the
underprivileged and marginalized sections of the society. The organization was
founded in 2018 with an aim to make sanitary napkins available for every girl
and woman in the city. The idea was to provide them the right to bleed with
dignity under any circumstances.
Every month a group of volunteers go on
ground for the distribution process to ensure that the resources reach to the
beneficiaries. This visit also involves addressing certain questions that the
girls/women have related to health/hygiene. The volunteers also work in the
areas of creating awareness about having a sustainable menstruation, safe
disposal of pads, issues addressing basic growth and development as well. Of
lately, we've also introduced the females with using the cloth pad, working
more on the idea to make menstruation more sustainable and dignified.
The organization is also working on creating
more pad vending and incinerating machines at the public places to ensure that
females don't compromise on their menstrual health and can access the pads
easily in the nearby private-public or public toilets. As of now, we have been
able to install one such equipment at the main bus station in the city.
Along with the same, we’ve also been taking
training and awareness sessions in different schools and institutions of the
city to educate the youth including both, boys as well as girls to break the
taboo by discussing this topic and making it as common as we breathe. We've
been able to address more than 20 schools in the city, covering an audience of
about 500+ young people.
Through our efforts we promote safe and
healthy periods for everyone in the city and ensure that
The social issue that the organization is addressing is provision and accessibility of sanitary napkins for everyone to bleed with dignity. The aim is ensuring safe and hygienic menstrual practice among the marginalized sections of the society and bursting the myths and taboos related to menstruation. Going with the statistics almost 77% of the women do not have accessibly to sanitary pads and hence they use old or dirty cloths, newspapers, ashes and even old dried leaves and husk. We are working to address the same issue, ACCESSIBILITY OF SANITARY NAPKINS FOR EVERYONE, EVERY MONTH. Providing rights to bleed with dignity is our focus area.
Also, to enhance safe practices around menstruation, we aim to create awareness and training sessions covering the topics like sexual reproductive health, menstrual health and hygiene, use and safe disposal of sustainable menstrual products, puberty, know your body and information around the myths related to periods. These sessions have been taken online as well as of line by well trained professionals and doctors in this area. Specifically speaking of the sustainable development goals developed by the U.N. we are specifically addressing the goals mentioned in SDG 6.2.
